Senior Independence Program

Most older adults want to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes and neighbourhoods. Often, aging in place safely doesn’t require complex medical intervention it simply takes a little practical assistance with everyday tasks that have become challenging to manage alone. The Senior Independence Program supports Calgary seniors (generally age 65+) who wish to stay independent, safe, and connected to their community.

Practical Support for Daily Living

Our program provides reliable, non-medical help tailored to the everyday realities of older adults. Depending on individual needs and current capacity, support may include:

  • Everyday Errands & Groceries: Safe pickup and delivery of prepaid groceries, household necessities, and permitted prescription orders.
  • Light Property & Household Help: Basic seasonal yard cleanup, leaf raking, moving waste bins, and light organization.
  • Decluttering & Safety: Organizing living spaces and clearing pathways to reduce fall hazards and make daily items easy to reach.
  • Community Navigation: Assistance locating local seniors’ benefits, transportation services (such as Calgary Transit Access), and government programs.
  • Social Connection: Providing respectful, friendly community interaction that helps reduce isolation.
  • Service Referrals: Directing seniors and families to trusted community organizations, food programs, and specialized social services.

Complementing Not Replacing Professional Care

This program is designed to fill practical gaps in daily living. It does not replace professional home care, nursing, or regulated health services.

We do not provide medical care, personal hygiene support (such as bathing or dressing), client transfers, medication administration, client transportation, or inside-the-home housekeeping. If healthcare or personal support is needed, we will gladly help connect you with appropriate healthcare or home-care providers.

Who Is Eligible

This program is available to eligible seniors in Calgary who are living independently with limited family or community assistance. Priority is based on need, safety considerations, urgency, and available organizational capacity.

Whether you are a senior looking for a helping hand or a family member seeking support for an aging parent, we are here to help maintain independence with dignity.
