Everyday Independence
A Small Amount of Help Can Make a Big Difference
- An older adult may no longer be able to maintain their yard.
- Someone recovering from surgery may temporarily be unable to pick up groceries.
- A person with a disability may need assistance completing an outdoor household task.
- A newcomer may not know which community programs or benefits are available to them.
Everyday Independence Society exists to help bridge these practical gaps.
We focus on what people can do independently while providing assistance with some of the things they currently cannot.

Helping people those who in need
A community where age, disability, illness or temporary physical limitation does not prevent anyone from safely managing everyday life, accessing essential resources or maintaining independence.
Our long-term goal is to develop a sustainable community-support network that fills practical gaps between complete independence and formal professional care.

Everyday Independence Society is a grassroots community nonprofit organization based in Calgary, Alberta. We provide practical, non-medical assistance to seniors, persons with disabilities, individuals recovering from illness or surgery, and newcomers.
We are not a home-care agency, healthcare provider, cleaning company, or landscaping business. Our mission is simple: provide a little practical help with everyday life so people can maintain their independence, safety, and dignity at home.
We focus on targeted, low-risk practical supports through five core programs:
- Everyday Yard Help: Basic seasonal maintenance such as lawn mowing, leaf raking, light weeding, and moving empty bins.
- Everyday Errands: Pickup and delivery of prepaid groceries and essential household items.
- Recovery Support: Short-term practical help for individuals recovering from surgery, illness, or hospital discharge.
- Newcomer Independence & Navigation: Help connecting eligible newcomers to public programs, community benefits, and settlement resources.
- Community Connections: Direct referrals to existing community organizations, food supports, and government programs.
Our programs are intended for Calgary residents facing practical everyday barriers due to:
- Age (seniors generally 65+)
- Physical or developmental disabilities
- Recovery from surgery, illness, or hospitalization
- Temporary mobility or health limitations
- Limited local family or social support networks
Because we operate with limited capacity, support is not guaranteed. Requests are evaluated based on safety, program scope, urgency, and available resources.
