Home & Property Assistance

A safe, functional living space is essential to staying independent. However, when age, disability, illness, or injury make physical upkeep difficult, routine tasks around the home can quickly become overwhelming or unsafe.

Our Home & Property Assistance program provides light, non-technical support to help eligible Calgarians maintain a safer, more accessible, and manageable living environment.

Who Is Eligible

This program is available to eligible Calgary seniors, persons with disabilities, and individuals experiencing temporary physical limitations due to illness, injury, or surgery who have limited support networks.

All requests are subject to an initial safety evaluation and available capacity. If a requested project falls outside our scope, we will do our best to guide you toward appropriate community resources or professional services.

Practical Support Around the Home & Yard

We focus on simple, low-risk physical tasks that do not require licensed contractors or heavy machinery. Depending on our capacity and a safety review, support may include:

  • Light Yard & Seasonal Cleanup: Basic lawn mowing, leaf raking, light weeding, and seasonal yard tidying.
  • Decluttering & Sorting: Practical assistance organizing everyday spaces to improve comfort and safety.
  • Garage & Storage Organization: Helping arrange storage areas so everyday items are within easy, safe reach.
  • Waste & Recycling Assistance: Help moving, organizing, or staging household garbage and recycling bins.
  • Light Household Organizing: Moving light items and clearing pathways to improve mobility throughout the home.
  • Hazard Reduction: Addressing minor household trip hazards to support safer daily living.

Safety First: Work We Do Not Provide

To protect the safety of our clients and workers, Everyday Independence Society provides strictly non-technical assistance. We do not perform work that requires specialized licensing, structural changes, or dangerous equipment.

We do not provide:

  • Skilled trades (electrical, plumbing, gas fitting, or HVAC)
  • Major home repairs, carpentry, or structural construction
  • Roofing or any work requiring ladders
  • Tree cutting, branch lopping, or chainsaw use
  • Heavy lifting or major furniture moving
  • Hazardous materials, biohazards, mold remediation, or pest control
  • Deep cleaning or routine inside-the-home housekeeping
  • Snow removal (at launch)
